Homestead Middle School,
650 NW 2nd Ave
Launched in the fall of 2008, in collaboration with the Miami-Dade Public School system, our Homestead satellite program is located at Homestead Middle School, 650 NW 2nd Avenue. Open to middle school-aged children of the community, this program also offers ballet classes to students who age-out of our Redlands location and want to continue pursuing the discipline of dance. Ballet classes are offered twice a week, for 1 1/2 hours each class, during the regular school year.
Information regarding the free classes goes home with the children in Creole, Spanish, and English the second week of the new school year. Ballet shoes, leotards and tights are fitted, purchased, and delivered to the children thanks to The Dancer's Loft, a Miami dance supply business, that has joined the collaboration. Through this dance supply store, the Thomas Armour Youth Ballet is able to purchase and fit the clothes and shoes at a minimal cost.
Classes are held in the school's auditorium, on the stage. Floor-to-ceiling mirrors have been installed on the stage wall and barres have been purchased for the students. At the end of the school year an in-studio showing, highlighting the year's work, is given free of charge to the friends and families of the participating students.
